Whelp, having got back from Japan, I'm full of anime reports. 

So then, two films... Summer Wars and Karigurashi no Arrietty.

Both of them... WOW. Just WOW. They're definitely on a par, though I think SW was ever-so slightly better. It's been out in Japan for a while, but it was on TV whilst I was there. Has anybody been good enough to see it? It's by the same folks as made The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, so I was expecting great things. But this was above and beyond TGWLTT by a LONG shot... SO much better.

As for KnA, Ghibli seem to have remembered what they're good at. ^^ It was a HUGE improvement on Tales from Earthsea which, if we're all honest, was a bit of a disaster for Ghibli. KnA felt less gimmicky. ^^

I was fortunate enough to see it on the big screen and yeah, it was great. It was better than TGWLTT on many ways, but I also think it suffered from the same flaw as its predecessor; I found the conclusion to be kinda cheesy in front of the rest of the movie, especially the hanafuda game at the end against Love Machine. But then, it's a family movie after all, so that kind of thing is tolerable.

At the very least, I can say Summer Wars totally merited all the awards it won.

SO yea, while I was gone I watched atleast 3 or 4 animes, aswell as started about that many. The problem is that I didn't bother to take list of the episodes I was watching or exactly which animes I finished, so I can't remember all of what I watched or was watching.

I know that I started watching The Third and got so far before I dropped off.

Today is a sad day for the anime industry :

 Satoshi Kon, Paprika, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent's director passed away at 47.

Truly a great loss; RIP  Satoshi Kon.

Oh yea g0rth0r (and anyone else) - have you watched Lamune? I watched it a while back while I was without internet, and I really enjoyed it.

Nope, never heard of that. I've been busy with the Banner/Crest of the Stars series lately (and my watching pace went downhill for a while); gotta love old space operas. Not good as LOGH, but surely entertaining.

Damn, he was also making a new movie at the time.  I just watched Tokyo Godfathers the other month too.  I highly recommend it.

Im going to be the weird guy and say that I've been watching the english dub of Ghost stories. Appearantly it bombed back in japan so they gave it to the west for dubbing rights super cheap, and let them do whatever they wanted with it.


They totally warped it into a show that looks like it belongs on Comedy central or something, but I actually find it enjoyable to watch. Its like a parody with experienced voice actors.
