Topic: *IMPORTANT* FORUM CHANGING HOSTS (Read 790 times)

Hey all, leadership has an important announcement to make regarding the forum. The server we're currently hosting on, that is, Kaleb's server, will be ending its free services. Because we're hosting freely on his server, this means that the forum is going to have to switch over to a new host. We've been discussing this, and our options, for a few weeks now, and within the next 7 days, just before August starts, we will at some point be entering a 24-48 hour maintenance period. This period will ensure that posts, accounts, etc will not be lost in the move while we back everything up. So if for some reason the forum doesn't work for you during the next week, don't panic, we're just moving. If you have any questions, post them or send a PM to Cutpurse, Wise, or Clive, and we'll put the answer up here for all to see. - - - Q Will the forum's layout and format still be the same after the move? 25 cents for a free space isn't that bad. It's a shame that we'll have to leave Kaleb's server, but as long as we don't have ads or anything. I pray to God that won't happened.

The forum doesn't need to be down when you're moving. All you do is move over your files and data from this FTP to your new one. MFF'll be all set up on that other, and then all you do is change the DNS in GoDaddy (Futt'll have to do that). Seamless, apart maybe from a post or two that was made in between the backup and the DNS change.
But you guys should really do this soon. KG13's going down in four days.

Oh I see. Will we be able to donate ? That host's pricing seems to be based on transfer rates/bandwidth usage and according to the pricing simulator, it's most certainly going to cost more than 30$ a year (which is very cheap to begin with... but still). |
