This is but one of the legends of which the people speak...

Long ago, there existed a kingdom where a golden power lay hidden.

It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains, and peace.

But one day a man of great evil found the golden power and took it for himself...

With its strength at his command, he spread darkness across the kingdom.

But then, when all hope had died, and the hour of doom seemed at hand...

...a young boy clothed in green appeared as if from nowhere.

Wielding the blade of evil's bane, he sealed the dark one away and gave the land light.

This boy, who traveled through time to save the land, was known as the Hero of Time.

The boy's tale was passed down through generations until it became legend...

But then...a day came when a fell wind began to blow across the kingdom.

The great evil that all thought had been forever sealed away by the hero...

...once again crept forth from the depths of the earth, eager to resume its dark designs.

The people believed that the Hero of Time would again come to save them.

...But the hero did not appear.

Faced by an onslaught of evil, the people could do nothing but appeal to the gods.

In their last hour, as doom drew nigh, they left their future in the hands of fate.

What became of that kingdom...? None remain who know.

The memory of the kingdom vanished, but its legend survived on the wind's breath.

On a certain island, it became customary to garb boys in green when they came of age.

Clothed in the green of fields, they aspired to find heroic blades and cast down evil.

The elders wished only for the youths to know courage like the hero of legend...

"Big Brother!"
Aryll's high-pitched voice kick-started the boy's brain. Even before peering through his blurry eyes, his aching limbs informed him that he hadn't napped on something soft. Mustering all his strength, Link rose to his feet to confront his rude awakener... and saw no one at all. Too groggy to care, he gave his arms a stretch with a loud yawn and took in a deep breath of air.

Salty and fresh. The memory returned to him then; he had dozed off while gazing at the clouds on the island's wooden lookout tower. That explained where he was well enough, but he wondered what kind of person would wake someone from their nap and run off-
"I knew you'd be here!"
The sound nearly gave him a heart attack, but at least it was a dead give-away. Sure enough, Link turned to find the cheery face of his younger sister Aryll, tottering back and forth in her bright blue sundress.

Link shared a lot in common with his sister, as far as looks went. Aryll had his dark green eyes, and of course his striking blonde hair. According to the other islanders, they made quite a cute pair if you caught the two together. Link didn't like that rumor much. Regardless, he looked after his sister like a good older brother should, keeping her out of harm's way and steering her on the right path as best as he could. Though, he often thought Aryll was too sweet a girl to do anything reckless or impulsive.
Care for her as me may, however, Link thought her much less innocent when she decided to wake him from a nice snooze.

"Hee hee hee! This is my FAVORITE spot to gaze out at the sea. When I play with the gulls, I call it 'Aryll's Lookout'. So... do you remember what day it is today?"
Aryll's older sibling replied to her with a look of drowsy uninterest.
"... You're still half-asleep, aren't you?", she asked with a twinge of disappointment. "Did you forget? Big brother, it's your birthday!"

That woke him up. How could he have let himself forget? Naturally, the young boy didn't bother to memorize any of the birthdays he wouldn't get in trouble for not knowing around the island, but losing track of the most important day of the year was not like Link at all. He could do nothing but gaze at his sister in disbelief.
"That's why Grandma has been waiting for you to come back to the house!", Aryll exclaimed. "She's been waiting for a while now... it's a good thing I came to find you!"

Link gazed over the rail of the lookout and across the island, at his Grandmother's house on the opposite side. Outset was a humble little island, with only a handful of residences spread about it here and there. Compared to islands like Windfall, with its bars and shops and such, there wasn't a whole lot to see or do. Still, the isle wasn't without its scenery. Rolling cliffs towered over two islands, both coated with green grass and dotted with tall palm trees. The ocean waves lapped against little outlets of sand, creating small beaches along the coast. Even still, the view from atop the lookout blew Link away.

"You should probably go home and see what Grandma wants, don't you think?"
Link snapped out of his trance. He turned to his sister, smiling gratefully; she could always tell when he was lost in his own thoughts. Nodding and giving her a wave, the boy hurried down the tall ladder of the lookout tower and sprinted across the long wooden walkway that connected to Outset Island- the only place he thought he'd ever know.
